Continuing education is important in many industries, but in the commercial real estate lending space, it’s important to understand the trends from leaders in the marketplace. One of the best events to gain these insights is the CREFC 2024 in Miami, put on by the Commercial Real Estate Financial Council.
Here’s a look at what you can expect at CREFC 2024.
About the CREFC 2024 Event
This year’s event takes place January 7th through the 10th in Miami, Florida, at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. There will be registration and welcome events on Sunday the 7th, with the show kicking off Monday morning.
We attend this event because it’s a great way for us to meet with banks, capital lenders, hard money lenders, and their financial attorneys that represent them. Over the course of the three-day event, we get market insights and hear about what transpired in 2023 and what is being forecasted in 2024. With the recent economic struggle and a looming election year, the market looks to stay unsettled.
“We operate off of data trends, but we love The CREFC 2024 event because it helps present different perspectives of how they are seeing the data, and that helps present a possible roadmap ahead,” said Randy Newman, founder and CEO of Total Lender Solutions.
CREFC 2024 Featured Speakers
More than 2,000 attendees are expected at the show, and there’s no shortage of panels and discussions on what 2024 will bring to the commercial real estate market.
Here are some of the events that are interesting to our team:
Economic Fortune Telling: Insights on the Future of CRE, Rates, the US Economy, and Anything Else We Left Out.
Led by TPG Real Estate CFO Bob Foley and including panelists, from Manulife Investment Management, BMO Capital Markets and Barclays, this looks at whether a recession is looking and what rate volatility might we see in the year to come.
Portfolio Lenders Forum
Moderated by Truist SVP Scott Dixon and Nuveen Managing Director Chris Miculis, this panel of speakers looks at unique macroeconomic highlights. This group includes representatives from BentallGreenOak, U.S. Bank, NA, Bank of America and Voya Investment Management. One of the key topics interesting to the TLS team is the capital markets and banking sector stress.
This next one really has us really excited:
Servicers and Special Situations Forum
Moderated by Leslie Hayton from Wells Fargo and Tony Yousif from SVN, this includes one featured speaker and five additional panelists talking about several core issues that are essential to us in the foreclosure space.
They include:
- Uncertainty around valuations and how they play into the masters role as liquidity provider and advancing obligations. What does the Master Servicer consider when evaluating recoverability of advances?
- Special Servicing Transfers, are loans staying in special servicing longer due to challenges in the market and exit strategy options?
- What are we seeing in distress? Office is deteriorating quickly and the hot topic, but nothing is invulnerable.
- Challenges in transparency in Special Servicing.
“Understanding where the experts see the trends headed in distressed commercial properties gives our team the ability to digest that information and determine whether we see the same conditions in the seven states where we operate,” says Newman.
Meet the TLS Team at CREFC 2024
Beyond all of the great discussion panels is the opportunity to network at the event with hard money lenders and their financial attorneys. They are often looking for a partner who is willing to deal with the most challenging cases of default.
TLS Vice President of Marketing Rory Cambra will be attending the CREFC 2024 event in Miami. As one of the leaders of our cross-functional team, he helps assemble foreclosure processes to get borrowers working again and loan payments current.
If you’d like to connect with Rory prior to the event, you can do so by visiting our contact page to set up a meeting. We will see you a CREFC 2024.
